INTRODUCTION

The UK is broadly quoted as having the maximum levels of Young Pregnancy in Western European countries (EPPI, 2006). The topic of teen pregnancy has been high on the agenda throughout the Labour government and is still a focus for the Parti. With teen parents facing comparatively adverse social and health effects, it is also well-known that teenage parents are often excluded by education, teaching and job, particularly when they may be already socially disadvantaged (SEU, 1999). Yet , the evidence is definitely contradictory whether or not these unfavorable outcomes will be purely relevant to the age of conception or are, more probable, a combination of sociable factors and the impact of decades of structural economical policy. I choose to research the topic because of my own intense detest for Charles Murray. I actually am interested in aspiration and I wanted to check out this regarding teenage father and mother and interpersonal exclusion, to challenge the information that present a teenage parent as wholly less likely to live a (subjectively) powerful life. In accordance to data from the Workplace for Nationwide Statistics, forty one, 325 young ladies under 18 in England and Wales became pregnant in 2008, a decline of 3. 9% via 2007, as the number of pregnancies among the under-16s fell six. 6% to 7, 577 (The Mom or dad 24/02/10). Though the decline can be far short of the government's pledge to halve adolescent pregnancies by simply 2010 it should be accepted that the strategy can be working to a degree. But for me, the scale in the numbers even now illustrates this issue will present itself in my everyday work. I desired some comfort and ease that I could work with the many young people I encounter from this situation and offer some hope – to draw a capitalist example that I am sure Conservatives would approve of; they will always state it is much easier to sell the item when you rely on it your self.

For me the hope lies in the introduction of the term and the (perceived? ) reality of cultural exclusion. The concept of Social Exemption has emerged from the changes in our society. " Murray argues that changes in habits of family formation threatens the orderliness and wealth of society” (MacDonald, 97, pg 10). Yet Teenage Pregnancy rates have not altered that significantly since the 60s. To me this kind of clearly shows that it features society that has changed, that society and structure has created social exemption and that presently there remains hope for teenage parents. My analysis was produced from the experiences with the subjects and for that reason based upon scientific evidence. I actually aim to review this with theory established by various sociological writers. The investigation was conducted in various specialist locations – Youth Zones, Sure Begin Centres, my office and other professional's office buildings. It was conducted over the course of three weeks, matched so to keep the previous subjects responses clean in the brain for the next. We adopted a semi-structured platform, employing a set of pre-defined (though different intended for the young adults and the professionals) questions which might be attached in my personal appendix. Out of this semi-structure I actually allowed for the conversation to flow, and also to a certain level, allow the respondent to take myself where that they wanted to go in relation to the topic.

Research method

I have a strong network of both the younger generation and specialists who work with them which will helped negate the potential obstacle of access. This produced the process of picking relevant, current and open up participants fairly straightforward, nevertheless this by itself brings several potential issues. I still find it appropriate to talk about the professionals as well as the young people separately as the interviews necessitated a different method.

For the professionals I was able to call upon my personal authority's Young Pregnancy Planner (who experienced just been made redundant), the Children in Proper care Coordinator, the Safeguarding Expert, a...
