" Far from being repressed, woman in Rossetti's poetry are defiant" How far do you really agree with this kind of view?

I agree with this kind of view to some extent, as there are elements of both clampdown, dominance and disobedient within most of Rossetti's poems.

Firstly, in the poem Maude Clare rather than women it appears to be the gentleman that is repressed to some extent since Maude Clare and Nell are both rebellious as they equally seem to possess strong opinions that are voiced clearly while Thomas continues to be in silence and it is not successful in declining his mom's wishes. Maude Clare displays defiance towards wedding of Thomas and Nell in the ninth stanza where the girl presumably says 'I rinse my hands thereof' in a tone of anger. Nevertheless , I think this might also be Maude Clare pretending she is okay and that that bother her so much anymore so that the girl does not appear to be the trick that the girl was.

Second, the speaker of Relative Kate is extremely bold in language. Though she acknowledges what her reputation can be which is not therefore positive she actually is firm and does not accept it is the truth. The speaker in reality says that Cousin Kate is the one that has been fooled in stanza five, ' In the event that he had tricked not me personally but that you a. This on the other hand also advises repression of Cousin Kate as she's described as a wretched fool and that she's not as harmless and real as society claims the girl with. This could be in referral to Christina Rossetti's own existence as the lady was involved twice but they broke away suggesting that there may of perhaps been a thing negative about Rossetti and that they were drawn by different fair maidens.

Thirdly, the speaker in Sister Maude shows wonderful defiance toward Sister Maude as this lady has betrayed the speaker. Sibling Maude apparently stole the speaker's enthusiast however the audio only seems to show anger towards Sis Maude and not towards her lover as if it was entirely Sister Maude's fault. The speaker likewise speaks in great defiance of their own character as if the speakers were much more pure than Sibling...
