Emily Dickinson vs . Langston Hughes

My personal purpose in comparing and contrasting these kinds of poets, Emily Dickinson and Langston Barnes, is to show out just how different they may be in their poetry. Emily Dickinson, in reading some of her poetry, " Hope is the Thing with Feathers”, I had developed to read this a couple of times just before I could get a good understanding of what she was trying to claim. Dickinson says ‘Hope is a thing with feathers', she actually is describing desire as a bird (1). Her rhyme scheme ABCB, and some carryover rhyming words (1). She applied a lot of metaphors through this poem as well, Hope is definitely the thing with feathers that perches inside the soul. Emily Dickinson looked like a little down to me in her poems. She looked more frustrated then straight down. In ‘Hope is the Factor with Feather' she says the bird hardly ever offered her a crumb. It's also mentioned that Dickinson sounds like the lady preached a whole lot in her poems as well. They often were from Psalms or religious hymns (1). In read more about Emily Dickinson, I do think she contradicted herself with her religious beliefs also. Dickinson's poetry criticizes God not by speaking out immediately against him, but by detailing the suffering this individual causes wonderful various affronts to an person's sense of self (1).  Langston Hughes,
